How to lose weight?

We hear it everyday in the news media about how so many Americans are now considered obese. In fact, statistics show that two-thirds of all American adults are considered overweight and one in three is considered obese. But what really is the difference between the two?

How to get rid of weight?

Being overweight simply means that you weight more than what is considered a normal weight for your height and body-build. This can mean excess weight from muscle, water, bone and fat. Being considered obese on the other hand means that you have a high proportion of body fat in comparison to what you should. And the way that this is measured is through a body mass index, or BMI. The BMI is based on height and weight, and is used to measure excess body fat on children and adults alike.

However, all of this is not to say that fat isn’t important. Fat is needed in order to insulate your body and for storing energy in, but beyond the need for your particular body, that excess fat is considered unhealthy. Therefore, going from being overweight to obese can then become more than just a concern about how you look.

All that extra body fat when you are considered obese can lead to many health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure, breathing problems, certain cancers, and not to mention other circulatory problems that come from not only the fat but the inactivity that comes with it. However, there is light at the end of this tunnel. Did you know that even a small amount of weight loss can help or prevent such complications from coming on?

There are many ways these days to help you battle your obesity problems. Such programs include special nutritional guidelines to follow when eating. We don’t mean a diet. Diet’s never work, but having a healthy nutritional guideline to follow can help take that weight off and keep it off. It is all about healthy eating patters.

How to stop obesity?

But there are also other ways to help in your battle with obesity. Besides physical activity, there are many medications these days that can help curb your need to over eat, as well as revolutionary new medical surgery’s that can be implemented to help you loose weight.

But in order to really know how to treat your obesity, we must first determine the cause. This is often harder to do than find a treatment because there are often many factors involved. These could include a person’s family history, environment, metabolism, behaviors, the types of medications they are on, and many other factors.

For those causes that a person can gain control over, like behaviors and environment, following a nutritional diet and exercise can help bring your weight down. However, for other issues like metabolic imbalances and the need for certain medications due to health problems, a more clinical approach may be needed. Either way it is important to consult with your doctor and/or a nutritionist to find out the best way for you to get to a healthy weight.
